Description
Rare analogue drum machine • Twelve combinable preset rhythms which sync to your DAW • Individual kit pieces with full level, velocity and pan controls • Very warm, thick kick drum • Great for retro weight in the low end • Plenty of randomised round-robins to preserve the analogue vibe
This is something of a strange one: the Maccambell Rhythm Selector RC-501, a very neat,
sturdy little drum box with a minimal control set and a big, weighty sound. It’s quite a rare device and there doesn’t seem to be much information about it floating around the interweb, but it’s clearly a 70s or early 80s analogue machine with basic kit pieces and twelve on-board rhythms. The snare and hats are crisp little things – good for ticking away in the background, but without much punch. The kick is a different story though: it has a ton of power, is nicely warm and rounded, and really makes itself felt in the mix! There’s also a wood block which is vital in the various Latin-style presets.
Also, we have to say, it’s great to see a drum machine with a Hustle preset. That’s a new one on us. Also, it really looks the part: a smart little metal box with white stripes. Super cool!
As usual, we’ve broken out the kit pieces so you can create your own rhythms with them; and the original patterns are beat-sliced ready to sync to your DAW’s tempo. You can mix, match and layer these to your heart’s content – some of the combos are really cool. And of course there are all the usual effects, so if you want a bitcrushed, distorted, wall-of-sound take on a mellow 70s Bossa Nova beat, it’s right there at your fingertips!
Great for that hefty kick and for immediate analogue warmth. We really like this one, and hope you will too.
